Cure Jock Itch – End Public Scratching!
Remember growing up in school and joking with your friends about “jock itch?” Most of us had no idea what it was, but just liked to say it. Then, remember getting old enough to actually have it for the first time? Wow, talk about a wake up call. And you don’t even have to be an athlete or jock to contract it – overweight folks and those who sweat profusely are prone as well. And while men are most often affected, it can occur in women, too.
Friction and fungus are the primary culprits for jock itch. The fungus that causes jock itch is Trichophyton Rubrum and affects the genitals, inner thighs, groin, and buttocks. And everyone knows that fungi grow in warm and moist parts of the body. Tight undergarments and/or clothing tend to aggravate the situation as well.
There are several home remedies that one can try to get rid of jock itch, such as the over-the-counter topical anti-fungal creams sold in pharmacies. Some common household items may assist with easing the discomfort and itching, such as cider vinegar to kill the fungus and cornstarch to keep the area dry so it can heal. Tea tree oil has been touted as beneficial in the relief of jock itch as well.
An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure is what the experts say, so eating a diet that omits refined carbohydrates, sugar and yeast can help keep the body’s creation of fungus to a minimum. Garlic is known to have antifungal properties, so maintaining a healthy balance of garlic in the diet can also be helpful.
In addition, wear loose fitting clothing and keep the areas that are prone to jock itch dry with silica-based powders. And avoid sharing personal items, such as clothing and towels with others.
Gone are the days when we laughed about skin conditions such as jock itch. Although, as one rubs cornstarch between their thighs, they could be thinking “if my grade school friends could see me now…”
