Toenail Fungus Cure – How to Tackle Toenail Fungus
Toenail fungus. Just the mere mention would make one shudder. However, it’s actually a very common ailment – over 11% of the population of North America has it. Some people are more susceptible than others to toenail fungus and it can present with mild to severe symptoms. Is there a toenail fungus cure?
Some of the causes of toenail fungus include an abnormal pH level of the skin (increasing the susceptibility), nail trauma (such as stubbing your toe severely or dropping something heavy on it), and poor foot hygiene (cleanliness IS next to Godliness, they say).
Prevention is the best way to avoid toenail fungus, so taking care in locker rooms, spas, pools and showers it advised. Wearing water shoes or flip-flops can protect feet from bacteria in public areas. Drying the feet and toes completely before putting on socks and shoes will also eliminate the moist, warm environment in which fungi thrive, and we can eliminate the need for a toenail fungus cure.
There are two ways to cure toenail fungus – naturally and unnaturally. Unnatural cures are generally what a dermatologist treating a severe case of fungus would prescribe and include oral drugs such as Lamisil and Diflucan. The reason that these are considered unnatural is that they can cause side effects in other areas of the body (such as liver damage) while treating the ailment of the foot. They can also be extremely expensive treatments.
Some natural remedies for curing toenail fungus (generally mild cases) include soaking the toes in antiseptic mouthwash or vinegar; applying peroxide, bleach or tea tree oil; or applying a mentholated ointment. The reasoning behind these methods is to kill the bacteria that cause the fungus to thrive and to change the pH levels of the skin to prevent the growth of the fungi.
In most cases of toenail fungus, it is generally advisable to try to a toenail fungus cure with home remedies first – a more natural attempt at eliminating the infection. If the home remedies fail and/or the infection becomes more acute, then a visit to a doctor might be required to get rid of the fungus completely.
Toenail fungus doesn’t have to be something to be ashamed of, but it does need to be addressed and treated for one’s own health as well as the health of those around.
