What is Leucatin and Where Can you Get Leucatin?
Leucatin is claimed to be a powerful all-natural anti-fungal medication used to treat nail infections caused by fungus. Leucatin was manufactured and distributed by Selmedica and was once sold exclusively over the Internet. Despite being advertised on a few web sites, Leucatin is no longer available for distribution in the United States.
The treatment plan included taking two capsules by mouth daily for seven days and applying the anti-fungal spray to the affected nails three times a day for seven days. Leucatin’s claims to kill the infection within seven days were taken by customers to “cure” nail infections that quickly. However, the trust behind Leucatin was to cure the infection in order to promote healthy new nail growth, which can take eight to twelve months.
Leucatin’s problems started with claims to registered with the United States Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and manufactured accordingly. Selmedica also claimed that Leucatin earned entry into the United States Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia. However, there is no evidence to support any of Selmedica’s claims. No FDA approval tends to throw giant red flags into the mix.
In March 2008, Selmedica’s production facilities were searched under warrant after claims of fraud emerged. (Leucatin was not the only thing they were manufacturing under false pretenses – e-books supposedly written by medical experts were part of the charges again Selmedica).
The investigation of Selmedica turned up the Leucatin did indeed contain all-natural ingredients such as Northern White Cedar, European Barberry, garlic, goldenseal root, St. John’s Wort and valerian in the oral capsules. These were deemed to be harmless and inert ingredients. The spray contained tea tree oil and some other extracts and herbs, which also were classified as safe for consumer use.
Despite these allegations, you can still find testimonials from previous users who indicate the Leucatin did exactly as it was advertised – which was to stop the spread of fungus associated with nail infections. Unfortunately, the company used simple ingredients that customers could have easily obtained for their own home use and for probably less cost.
